Toward a Dayak Literacy Movement: Organizers Prepare for an International Congress in Borneo
The discussion brought together Yansen TP as Chairman of the Steering Committee, Matius Mardani as Secretary, and Masri Sareb Putra as Executive Chairman, in an intensive online meeting to prepare the International Congress of Dayak Literacy & Dayak Book Fair 2026 in Sekadau, West Kalimantan.

On March 7, 2026, three key figures behind the upcoming International Congress of Dayak Literacy & Dayak Book Fair 2026 held an intense virtual meeting to map the road ahead.

The congress is scheduled to take place in Sekadau, West Kalimantan, on May 15–16, 2026.

A Strategic Online Meeting

The discussion brought together Yansen TP, who serves as Chairman of the Steering Committee; Matius Mardani, the Secretary; and Masri Sareb Putra, the Executive Chairman.

The conversation unfolded with seriousness but also with unmistakable enthusiasm.

Over the course of the meeting, the three organizers reviewed the strategic framework of the congress. They examined financial planning and budgeting.

They discussed a participation model designed to remain open, independent, and accessible.

They also explored ways to widen the circle of participation so that Dayak leaders, thinkers, writers, and cultural actors from various regions could contribute their voices and ideas.

For the organizers, the congress is not simply an event. It is a deliberate effort to build an intellectual platform for the Dayak world.

More Than an Event, a Cultural Gathering of Ideas

As the discussion deepened, the focus moved beyond logistics. The organizers spoke about the deeper meaning of the congress.

They envisioned the gathering as a shared intellectual space where Dayak experiences, knowledge, and ideas could meet. A place where stories from villages could stand beside academic research. Where cultural memory could interact with modern scholarship.

The International Congress of Dayak Literacy is expected to become an important milestone. It aims to strengthen intellectual networks among Dayak writers, scholars, and activists. It also seeks to encourage the growth of literacy movements across Borneo and beyond.

In this vision, literacy is not merely about reading and writing. It is a cultural movement. It grows through dialogue. Through encounters between generations. Through the courage to document history, language, and knowledge that have long lived in oral traditions.

A Call for Participation and Collective Commitment

The organizers also extended a call to members of the Dayak literacy community, especially those connected through their WhatsApp network. The message was clear: no one should be left behind. Everyone is invited to take part actively and independently in the congress.

The organizing committee will assist participants in arranging accommodation during the event in Sekadau. However, the spirit of the congress rests on voluntary support and shared commitment from Dayak literacy activists.

Every contribution matters. No matter how small. Each one represents intention, solidarity, and determination to advance Dayak civilization through knowledge and writing.

For some, contributing may feel like a burden. But in the long view, it is better understood as an investment. An investment in a future where Dayak voices speak confidently in books, research, and global conversations.

The organizers therefore invite supporters to help ignite a real and lasting movement of Dayak literacy in Borneo.

Voluntary contributions may be transferred to:

BNI Account: 1349344733

Account Name: ITKK / Florentina Neneng Sabela

With sincere gratitude, the organizers thank all supporters for their generosity and commitment to the advancement of Dayak civilization.
